WHAT COMES NEXT

Season One | Post 8

I don’t know about you, but my mind values beginnings and endings. So this blog is written in seasons—not just to organize ideas, but to offer a sense of rhythm. A place to pause and say, “We’ve gone somewhere together.”

Three people hiking uphill on rocky steps against a cloudy sky, evoking adventure and exploration.

Season One was my attempt to lay a foundation for this project—what TELOS&today is, what you’ll find here, and why it matters right now. We explored the intersection of neuroscience, spiritual formation, and technology—three powerful forces shaping the contours of modern life in ways we rarely stop to examine together. My goal wasn’t just to share ideas, but to provide practices. Because transformation doesn’t come from consuming content—it comes from participation.

And now we’ve reached a bend in the trail.

Season Two will pivot toward theology. If Season One explored how change happens in the mind and nervous system, Season Two will ask why we’re aiming for change in the first place. Why this particular direction? Why wisdom? Why generous contribution? Why love?

This theological grounding isn’t separate from the neuroscience we’ve explored—it’s the deeper why beneath the how. These aren’t rhetorical questions. They’re spiritual ones. And they deserve a grounded response.

So in Season Two, I’ll share more about the Christian contemplative tradition I’ve emerged from—and why I’ve chosen to build this project tapping into some values and practices from that tradition. You won't find an argument. I'm not about persuasion. I will simply provide a window into the roots of my thinking. If they nourish you too, beautiful. If they don’t, I'll wish you well wherever you journey next.

Before we move on, I’d value your input. I’ve put together a short poll to better understand how this site and blog are landing with you so far. What’s been helpful? What’s missing? What’s stirring?

This project is shaped in real time by the people interacting with it.

Thank you for being part of TELOS&today

Season Two will begin with a phrase that Jesus often said: 'Follow me.' How? What does that even look like in real life? I've spent a lot of my life thinking about this phrase - how it's been watered down or misused or ignored - and the implications of what it might mean to have that phrase influence my aim for life.
